A very important factor with liquid damaged devices is the length of time elapsed after the incident. The sooner you are able to bring your device in for repair the higher the chance of its survival. When any device comes into contact with liquid it starts a chain reaction; the power supplied by the battery arcs across all the devices components causing oxidization to occur. It is very important, if possible to remove your devices battery. If your device has a non removable battery, (such as an iPhone or iPad) it is crucial that you bring your device in to us as quickly as possible.
The success rate of liquid damage cleaning is also dependent on what type of liquid the device has been dropped in/spilled on. Liquids high in sugar such as Coke and Lemonade pose more of a threat than liquids such as water.
There is a common myth that leaving your device in rice helps to absorb the liquid. Unfortunately, this method does not work! Furthermore, if your device has a non removable battery rice can actually get stuck inside and cause complications when repairs are attempted.
All our liquid damage repairs are disassembled to component level and submerged in an ethanol alcohol solution in an ultrasonic printed circuit board cleaner.
The data and information on your device such as contacts, messages and photos are usually unaffected. The quicker the device is brought in for repair the less chance there is for replacement parts as the original parts can be revived.
Unfortunately, on certain occasions where a device is not repairable we may still be able to back up all your data to a DVD or removable media device.
